Camp 30 is located in Bowmanville, Ontario. It’s the site of a former prisoner of war camp used during the Second World War. The prisoners were from Nazi Germany. This is the story of that POW camp – and some kittens. After the war, the property was returned to the boy’s school.Camp 30 has been caught in a tug of war between the Kaitlin Corporation who owns the property and would like to build a subdivision on the property, and the Jury Lands Foundation who is attempting to preserve the site. Abandoned Ontario Mansion of Murals

mural mansion

This fascinating house in Ontario has been vacant for many years now. It’s not clear why it won’t sell, despite being on the market for some time now. The realtor won’t give any details as to the circumstances of the house being put up for sale. Entry to this house was tricky but we managed to find a way inside without breaking in (something we don’t do). I will tell you that the house is now alarmed with an external siren that is quite loud.  The house remained vacant as of 2020, and the alarm was on. As for why…

All Star Bowling Alley – Scarborough, Ontario

Abandoned All Star Bowling

The 24 lane All Star Bowling Alley in Scarborough closed not long ago. It’s located in a building with four business ventures – the bowling alley, Rockpile East band stage, a hotel and Caddy’s strip club. All of these businesses have shut down because a developer plans to build 184 homes on the property. The electricity was still working during my visit and there’s NO vandalism, for now. The area this abandoned bowling alley is located in is full of graffiti. It took us a few tries before we could gain entry into this location. Fortunately locked doors and boarded windows…

Abandoned Markham Ontario Mansion

markham ontario abandoned mansion

I was driving around the GTA area when we passed this gorgeous abandoned mansion. At the time there were workers on the property and they’d just started demolition. We waited a short while until 5 pm when the workers left for the day. The baseboard and door trim has been removed which I think was because the demolition company planned to save it. This house had ceiling medallions, recessed wall shelves, two staircases, a stone fireplace and a basement bar.  We returned shortly after the workers left for the day and found entry to be quite easy. I’m sure this beautiful…

Caddy’s Strip Club & Rockpile East – Scarborough, Ontario

caddys strip club

Caddy’s Strip Club was located in Scarborough, Ontario. Part of the adult entertainment experience of course was the availability of lap dances. This was a private area where dancers would provide dances for men often with unwanted physical contact taking place.Caddy’s Strib Club joins many others that have closed across Canada as fewer people utilize them. With the availability of adult material, who’d want to pay $8 a beer to see what you could see naked women at home? If the walls could talk, they’d probably moan.Above the steps to the building was a Cadillac car. There is no electricity so…

Hickson United Church

Hickson United Church

The Hickson United Church was built in 1901 and opened in 1902. Given the small size of the town of Hickson, the church was used as a meeting place for community functions including baptisms, weddings, funerals, Bible school, Brownies, Girl Guides, Scouts, weddings and baby showers. As with so many churches across Canada (approximately 9,000 of them due to close within the next 10 years) this one closed due to declining congregation sizes. In 2019 there were approximately 20 families attending mass on Sundays. Final services were held on March 10th, 2019. The church donated leftover items to other nearby churches. The…
